The
Master Cleanse is a book written by Stanley Burroughs which explains the
virtues of drinking a lemonade diet.
The Master Cleanse was written by Stanley
Burroughs. In it, the formulation of a lemonade diet is given. The
purpose of such a program is to heal the body by essentially giving your
digestive system a break. Your body consumes a lot of energy in the
process of digesting your meals. Think about how you feel after a large
meal. Do you feel light and energetic? Heavens no. We all get droggy and
lethargic and normally have to lie down some where to 'work it off'.
Well, the Master Cleanse gives your body a break and in doing so,
healing can occur naturally.
The Master Cleanse consists of avoiding all solid foods and drinking a
special lemon drink. For this reason, many people refer to it as the
lemonade diet. Essentially, the drink contains equals parts lemon juice
(fresh only), maple syrup (Grade B) mixed with clean filtered water. A
tiny dash of cayenne pepper is added. All of these ingredients make up
this drink.
While on the Master Cleanse, whenever you get hungry, you drink another
glass of the lemonade. As you might imagine two things happen on this
program. First, you will go to the bathroom a lot. Second you will most
likely experience weight loss. If you are worried about losing too much
weight, you can add more maple syrup into your drink to increase the
calories.
In the book, Stanley Burroughs suggests maintaining the master cleanse
for 10 days. You can go as long as 40 days but it is recommended you
consult a health care provider before embarking on such an ambitious
length of time. If you are sick, overweight, tired or just want to
cleanse, try out the program and see how it feels. Most people on the
master cleanse experience increased energy, alertness, clearer thinking
and overall feelings of well being.
