pH Balance
Your
body's pH balance is critically important for your long term
health.
Most people have never been taught that
they have an internal pH balance that is extremely important. Almost
everyone knows what acids are. We have seen videos on TV of acid burning
holes through metal. To measure the strength of an acid, a scale, called
the pH scale was invented. It stands for 'percentage of Hydrogen'. On
one side of the scale are acids. They measure from 1 to less than 7.
Pure water is neutral and measure exactly 7. From 7 to 14 are alkaloids
or bases. In our bodies, we have a natural pH balance that must be
maintained. Our blood is slightly alkaline (measuring approximately
7.35). If the pH of the blood deviates, the chemical processes in your
body are interrupted and you can get sick and even die. A person who's
ph balance has moved to the acidic side is said to be in a state of
acidosis. This can also be caused by holding your breath too long and
people who are diabetic can sometimes be in a state of acidosis.
So, we know that it is important to maintain our proper pH balance
inside our body. How is this actually done? The body has a number of
amazing process that are being researched more and more to discover the
exact answer to that question. What is thought happens is the body has a
number of buffering systems to reduce the acid in your body fluids. One
such buffering system relies on the bodies minerals. Minerals combine to
create alkaline salts. When you take an acid and mix it with an alkaline
or basic liquid, they both are neutralized. So, the body will sacrifice
some minerals to neutralize acids and restore the pH balance. If the
minerals are not present in your diet, the body will take them from
minerals and bones, that's how important the pH balance is.
Another buffering material is fat. The pH of fat is alkaline. In fact,
soap, which is also alkaline, is often made from animal fat. The body is
thought to create more fat in people who are acidic. This is astounding
information because it means that being overweight is an acid problem
for some individuals. Their excess body fat may actually be storing the
excess acid in their bodies, thereby preventing any damage to vital
organs and nerves. It is known that when people restore their pH balance
and detoxify their bodies, fat loss almost always occurs too.
What can
you do to get into proper pH Balance?
People who want to restore their pH
balance should first begin with education. Learn about alkaline diets
and how they can be used to detoxify the body. An alkaline diet is
mainly composed of raw foods, the majority of which are alkaline. An
alkaline diet will contain many green vegetables and very few fruits.
Other than dietary sources of acid, we have micro-organisms living
inside us. Many of these feed on a polluted environment and produce
acidic waste products. By changing to an alkaline diet, these
micro-organisms cannot survive and simply die off. There is new evidence
that shows they actually do not die but transform into friendly
non-acidic micro-organisms. So, to get into proper pH Balance, learn to
eat an alkaline diet.
There are many books available on maintaining proper pH balance. An
excellent first book is "The pH Miracle" by Dr Robert Young. After
reading that book, you will have all the knowledge needed to get back
into proper pH balance. If you decide to adopt an alkaline diet, his
book includes many recipes and his wife has a companion cookbook loaded
with excellent ph balance recipies.
